Best SEO Chrome Extensions
1. AIOSEO Analyzer: Speed Up SEO Checks
This newly released extension from the All in One SEO (AIOSEO) team works on unpublished and published web pages.
It’s bundled with a generous number of SEO checks, including:
- Sitemaps and Robots.txt
- Titles and meta descriptions
- Internal and external links
- Schema markup
- Social OG tags
- Headings
- Image SEO including alt tags and image titles
- Canonical URL
Editors will appreciate the compact display of the Headings tab. This provides a fast way to check for logical structure.
All of these checks are important to ensure that your website is optimized for search engines and can be easily found by potential customers. And you can export the data to a CSV file.
AIOSEO Analyzer also offers a Tools tab with outbound links to platforms like Semrush and Majestic.
This Chrome extension pairs well with AIOSEO’s free SEO Analyzer. A web-based tool, the SEO Analyzer provides a detailed site audit that can be exported as a PDF.
Good to know: Unlike some of the other extensions we tested, the Analyzer only appears when you click on the icon. So it doesn’t interfere with viewing pages like Google Search.
We recommend using the All in One SEO (AIOSEO) plugin to maximize your WordPress website SEO. This plugin has thousands of 5-star reviews on WordPress.org, and it’s beginner-friendly.
2. Hunter.io Email Finder: Outreach Contacts
Backlinks are crucial in SEO rankings, and writing guest posts is a popular way to get those links.
But what if you want to write for a site but can't find verifiable email contacts? Or maybe only low-level contacts are listed.
That's where Hunter.io comes in. It's perhaps the best tool for unearthing difficult-to-find contact emails, and it can work even when no contacts are listed on a site.
The Hunter.io Chrome extension makes getting this info convenient. And you can filter your email search by department, such as IT or Management.
You can save your leads. And Hunter.io also provides a list of sources from which it extracted the emails.
Good to know: Hunter.io provides a verification score, which is a confidence rating out of 100% that the email address it’s found is accurate. And it has a 5-star average rating in the Chrome Web Store.
3. Keyword Surfer: Get More Data in Google Search
Keyword Surfer displays keyword data as an overlay in Google Search results.
It provides this in 3 places.
First, in the search bar itself, you’ll get estimated monthly search volume and cost-per-click (CPC) for Google Ads campaigns.
Below that, in the results, you’ll get additional data listed with each article.
- Estimated monthly traffic for the domain
- Word count for page
- Number of times the keyword is used on the page
The extension also indicates if the “Title changed.” Hovering over “Title changed” will reveal what the old title was.
But we noticed many of our articles were listed as “Title changed” even though the title hadn’t changed. Hovering over “Title changed” simply displayed the same title as the one in search results.
Lastly, Keyword Surfer displays related keyword ideas in a box on the right side of search results.
Keyword Surfer is made by Surfer, a web-based product that’s something of a cross between Clearscope and an AI content generator.
4. SEOquake: Keyword, Site, and Page Data
SEOquake is a versatile Chrome extension offering SEO data, site audit information, and keyword research features.
You can choose several display options, like “vertical right” shown below.
Clicking the gear icon opens the rectangular Settings panel, which offers tick-box options.
Clicking “More settings” at the bottom of that panel gives you options like URL filters to exclude SEOquake from listed domains.
“Diagnosis” links to a report on the SEOquake website that lists the title, meta description, headings, sitemap, and other on-page data. This is similar to what’s available in the Overview tab of the AIOSEO Analyzer.
Features include:
- Keyword density check
- On-page SEO checks
- Site audit
- Link to Semrush backlinks
If you’re logged into your Semrush account, clicking Semrush backlinks will take you straight to related information. Clicking “Site audit” will open a pop-up window that asks you to connect your Semrush account to SEOquake.
SEOquake adds a data overlay to Google Search, just like Keyword Surfer does. To turn it on, you’ll toggle the button here.
We toggled it on and got lots of data. But we didn’t see a way to prevent the SEOquake tab from obscuring our view of Google search results.
5. Mangools SEO Extension: Backlinks and On-Page SEO
The Mangools SEO Extension offers many features and a Firefox version too.
Keywords, Backlinks, and Rank tracking tabs all require you to create a Mangools account, which is free for 10 days. Pricing starts at $29/month.
Creating an account gives you access to SEO metrics tools for keyword research, backlinks analysis, and SERP analysis.
The Overview tab has 4 locked features that require you to create a Mangools account.
And 3 of the 5 tabs in the Chrome extension won't display any info unless you create that account.
The On-PageSEO Tab displays data for:
- SERP presence
- Meta tags
- Structured data
- Headings
- On-page keywords
- Outbound links
- Social
- Page Speed
Unlike the Ahrefs extension mentioned below, the Page Speed feature on Mangools actually works. It pulls in data from Google PageSpeed Insights, including the usual diagnostic tips for developers, like minifying CSS or reducing JavaScript execution time.
Good to know: Given that a Mangools subscription comes loaded with keyword research and rank-tracking tools, you could get Mangools and skip a subscription to pricier tools like Ahrefs and Semrush.
6. Ahrefs SEO Toolbar: On-Page Checks and Keyword Ideas
The Ahrefs SEO Toolbar‘s on-page SEO report includes title, meta description, links, schema, social tags, and image SEO.
Additional data will be displayed in the Chrome extension if you have a paid Ahrefs account.
We like that the extension checks for the presence of a published date and a modified date. Another plus: you can view and sort links by nofollow, UGC, or sponsored link attributes.
Under the Metrics tab, the only option (Core Web Vitals) was blank. It’s clear from the tool tip that this window is meant to pull in data from Google’s PageSpeed Insights.
This toolbar also provides keyword ideas via an overlay in Google Search.
Here’s an example.
Note that without an Ahrefs account, you won’t see any useful data like keyword difficulty rating or search volume.
7. Link Research SEO Toolbar: Backlink Data for Pros
This Chrome extension is from Link Research Tools (LRT), an advanced link analysis platform. LRT is used mainly by professional marketers and developers.
The extension displays LRT’s proprietary Power and Trust ratings. These are domain authority scores, similar to what you find in Semrush and Ahrefs.
Clicking on Keywords or Backlinks will take you to the sign-in page for Link Research Tools.
Pricing starts at $599/month.
This toolbar works best as a supplement to the Link Research Tools SaaS product.
In the Chrome web store, LRT also offers a Link Redirect Trace extension and a standalone LRT Power*Trust extension.
Good to know: There are 3 display options for the toolbar. On a 15-inch laptop screen, we found the “mini” version was hard to read. So we recommend opting for the “bulky” or “skyscraper” display options.
8. SimilarWeb: Ranking Data and Trends
SimilarWeb is a well-known provider of competitive insights, offering free and paid tools.
The SimilarWeb Chrome extension provides traffic and engagement stats, site rank, traffic sources, geographical data, monthly visits, page views, and more.
The Chrome web store copy describes the stats as “real-time.”
We tried SimilarWeb's extension out on a popular Substack newsletter page. The extension window is well-designed, with crisp charts, and it's easy to read.
The extension has several options to get “More insights” or “Go to SimilarWeb.”
Clicking those buttons will require that you sign up for SimilarWeb and give them access to your site’s Google Analytics and Google Search Console data.
If you prefer to keep that data confidential, then skip this extension.
