Step 1. Upgrade Your Pinterest Account to Business
First things first, you should upgrade your personal account to a Pinterest business account.
A Pinterest business account lets you gain access to a lot of Pinterest benefits that you wouldn’t have otherwise, including boosting brand authority, driving traffic, the ability to create and display ads, access to Pinterest insights, and more.
Best of all, Pinterest Business is free and easy to set up.
By default, all Pinterest account is a personal account. To claim your website on Pinterest, you'll have to switch your personal account to a business account.
Switch From Personal to Business
Log in to your Pinterest account, go to the top right corner, and click the dropdown arrow.
Here you need to click the Convert to Business link.
On the next screen, you can see all the personal and business account features, with the business account offering more features.
Next, click the Convert Account button. It will take you to a new screen where you need to create a business profile.
After that, add your business details such as business name, website, country, and language.
Next, you need to describe your business and the goals you wish to achieve with the Pinterest business account. These goals could be driving traffic to your site, generating more leads for your business, or more sales.
On the next screen, you need to describe who you’re (choose from blogger, store owner, influencer), and click Next.
Now select Yes, if you wish to run ads on Pinterest. In our case, we’re selecting No because we don’t want to advertise at the moment. Click Next.
Now Pinterest will ask you where you would like to start. Here we can see 3 options, including sharing ideas, claiming your website, and showcasing your brand.
For this tutorial, we’re selecting Claim your Website.
Now let’s move to the next step and see how you can easily claim your WordPress website on Pinterest.
Step 2. Claim Your Website on Pinterest
On this screen, you can see the Claim button next to the website. It will directly take you to the claim settings page.
After clicking the Claim button, Pinterest will show you a popup with the options for finalizing the claim process.
You can see 3 methods including:
- Add HTML tag — simply add an HTML code snippet to your website <head> section.
- Upload HTML file — download an HTML file and upload it to the root directory of your website.
- Add TXT record — add a verification record to your domain host.
While you can opt for any of the three methods, we will use the first HTML tag addition method since it is the simplest of the three options.
Step 3. Add HTML Tag to Your WordPress Website
To add the HTML tag, you can install the All In One SEO plugin on your WordPress website. For more details, see the detailed guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.
Once you’ve done with plugin installation, you can verify your site with Pinterest using our Webmaster Tools feature. To do so, navigate to WordPress Dashboard » General Setting » Webmaster Tools and select the Pinterest Site Verification.
Once selected, the verification tab will appear on the same screen. Here you need to copy the code from Pinterest and paste it into the Pinterest Verification Code. Click Save Changes.
Go back to Pinterest and click Continue.
Next, Pinterest asks you to verify your website by adding your site link. Once added, click Verify.
It will take a few seconds to finalize the process. Once verified, you will see the verification message.
Congratulations! Your website has now been claimed successfully.
